1. Local Bank – occasionally a local bank will give you a checking account despite being listed in chexystems. However don’t hold your breath, it will help if they somehow know you or know someone you know. For example, if your parents have been using this bank they may be willing to work something out for you.

Unfortunately you will be unable to find a major bank to do this. If you do go in there they will try and sell you a secured credit card – which isn’t a bad alternative but it isn’t a checking account and it will charge you some fees.

2. Ask Friend or Relative – please be careful if you use this however if you ask a friend or relative to attach their checking account to yours then you will be able to get an account. This is how it works, if you overdraft your account the balance will be withdrawn from your relatives or attached account. If you use this please use caution, money is not a good reason to throw away a relationship.

3. Prepaid Card – a prepaid debit card will work very similar to a checking account. It will give you free direct deposit to help you save on paying for check cashing. Additionally it will provide you an online bill payment center. You log in and fill in the information: the business, the amount, the date you want it sent and presto a check will be mailed in your name.

This option will also give you the purchasing power of having a major Visa or MasterCard. You will be able to make purchases online and over the phone. You can reserve a hotel room, book airfare, rent a car … And should you need cash you can stop by an ATM or get cash back at the grocery store.

These are you options if you are in chexsystems. You can try and dispute the listing and get removed however while you are on it – no major bank will give you a checking account.
